Ethics Article Review Essay
This paper seeks to prepare a review of an article discussing ethics in accounting and financial decision making by making a brief summary, relating to assigned reading for the week, relating and applying the concepts to current or former employerââ¬â¢s organization, making improvement for the organization using the article as basis and explaining the importance of ethics in accounting and financial decision making. A description of the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley act will also be discussed including its impact on accounting and financial decision making. 2. Discussions 2. a. Brief Summary The article is talking about the importance of ethics in accounting and business. To dramatize its significance in business, it has cited a story of a number of rich people who may have attained their financial rewards in business but ended dying in less meaningful ways impliedly because of missing the principles of ethics. While the article admits that earning money or attaining riches may be an acceptable goal in business, there is still the question of how success in measured in the final analysis and for which the authors were arguing for riches acquired with honor and if a choice would be made between the two, it would be more preferable to have honor rather riches (Smith and Smith, 2003) . 2. b. Relating to assigned readings As to how the article relate to assigned readings for this week, it may be argued that the article has touched on the importance of rules or guides to actions in business. Ethics in business may be asserted to be indispensable if business will have to attain its goals in harmony with other goals of society such as those in economics and politics. 2. c. Application of article to organization As to how the ethical concepts discussed on the article may apply to this researcherââ¬â¢s former or current organization, it may be argued that the universality of principles related to ethics would really make it difficult to exclude this researcherââ¬â¢s organization from any of its application.. Since my organization is part of the larger society where everybody else lives, it cannot isolate itself from the community by doing unethical things. It cannot even argue that any illegal or unethical thing that it may do will not matter in a world where there many players who may be affected by decisions made. In the same way that a member of society can make a difference for the good of the community so with the failure of one organization or even a person in the organization can do to the detriments of many if not all of the members of the community. 2. d. Recommendations for improvement of the organization To make recommendations for improvement on this researcherââ¬â¢s or organization using the article as basis, the organization should encourage simple living among its executives so that they could be more disciplined in the way the companyââ¬â¢s resources are being managed not only for the stockholders but even to every stakeholders who stand to benefits from the observance of ethical conduct in the organization. The other stakeholders of course include the employees who aspire for long-term employment (Sears, 2003), the creditors and lenders who resources need to be protected as well, customers who need to have their needs and wants for companyââ¬â¢s products and services continuously satisfied and the government who must continue ensuring payment of taxes and compliance with regulations. 2. e. The importance of ethics in accounting and financial decision making and how the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley Act affects the same The important of ethics in accounting and financial decision making cannot be underestimated. Without ethics there would be no responsibility for right or wrong act can be demanded from people making decisions. The managers who are considered agents of stockholders would instead enrich themselves at the expense of stockholders investments. On the other hand, these stockholders would just exploit whatever they can to the detriment of their principal, this time their debt capital providers. The organization can likewise treat its employees with disrespect and violate the latterââ¬â¢s if there in no ethics that would guide them. Laws will be insufficient to exact compliance if people in the organization were not instilled the proper values when they were still young in the same way that it is hard to teach tricks to an old dog. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is a classic example to legislate rules of conduct that would improve corporate governance (Ali, et. al, 2006) including a more strict compliance of requirements in regulating companies in terms of financial statements and ensuring of ethical conduct of external auditors (Bainbridge, 2007). Although the law is a positive act to ethical practice of doing business, the choice to do what is right is still with decision makers who must have the right sense of values for society. 3. Conclusion: Ethics has a purpose to attain. It is a part of an organizationââ¬â¢s life since it is a guide to decision making not only in accounting and finance but even to all other aspect of business operations. A sense or rightness or wrongness offers a choice and that which is good is incidentally consistent with ethics. As the world seems to be painting what are the standards of its success when actually they are not the real and lasting ones, ethics its and principles have much to offer in making the correct decision that will lead real and lasting success for human existence. The article has argued that honor is preferable than riches but riches need not be inconsistent with riches as long as they are ethically acquired. Education Is the Movement from Darkness to Light Essay
Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which knowledge, skills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training, research, or simply through autodidacticism. Generally, it occurs through any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts. Why do we have to go to school? Well because it is the best option for your future. What would you prefer, without much education you will end up working 50 hour weeks while the other person who has a better education is making more money in half the time, Because those clothes and bills arenââ¬â¢t going to pay themselves and because the new clothes and the new life isnââ¬â¢t going to be greeting you with money. Once married or left alone outside your mothers house, you are all on your own, and if you plan on living somewhere cozy, then I suggest getting a job to pay all those bills which you will be receiving for you and your life. Education is the key role in life and it is what makes a person who he is. Education is what shows the people surrounding you, your occupation that can then slowly lead to your likes and dislikes. The better options the Man or Woman has, the more chances you have on finding the right person in your life. Education is the seed of life, without it, you are unable to take life to its max, to go further than beyond, to live life to the fullest. It is what makes a person think how he thinks. It is what makes a person who he is. It makes his life. It also shows the people who he is, which result in their friendly or cruel gesture to them. With a diploma or a degree in something makes your job a lot more fun and a lot easier to do because you would be enjoying what you do, otherwise you wouldnââ¬â¢t have went that far in that field. The battle for jobs in between diplomaââ¬â¢s versus less educated would be a match everyone knew who would win before it even started. Education has some special abilities, of which are, better salary than the common person, healthier or happier life. Education is the most important thing when it comes to job hunting. Education makes a man who he is and what he does. It chooses his faith and when he is on the right path, he leaves him on his own, to make his own decisions with his new life with Education. It shows the surrounding people who you are, what you like and what you donââ¬â¢t. Education has to be used the right way and what I mean by that is to use it to help others. Only education can help you in the future, so why abuse it, and take it if you can!

Shotgun vs Rifle
Compare & Contrast All guns serve different purposes. Guns have been a part of American history for many years. Many different kinds of guns have been used for many different types of jobs. Just as police use guns for law enforcement, hunters use guns to harvest game and they have different guns for different game. The two most commonly used firearms of hunters, are the rifle and the shotgun. One of the great things about having a well-made shotgun is that they are not very expensive and will usually last you a long time. They are very easy to take care of and you can put many rounds threw them before they need to be cleaned. When you do need to clean them, it is very simple because a shotgun does not have a lot of working parts. So, it is very easy to get a cleaning tool in all parts. A couple of down falls to a shotgun is that your range is minimized to how far you can actually shoot accurately and kill game, (you can shoot slugs threw them around 100 yards, but there are not always accurate and when harvesting game you always want a clean kill). So the typical ammo is bird shot or steel shot, shooting birds from ten yards all the way up to forty yards. A rifle is an amazing weapon. There are tons of things you can do with a rifle and so many different kinds of calibers that you can shoot. Anything from a . 22 caliber bullet all the way up to a . 50 caliber bullet, this will shoot well over a mile. Rifles are used far more by hunters than any other gun out there. The rifle can take all kinds of game and is also very accurate with really long distances. With the rifle, you have a better chance at a good, clean kill because of its accuracy. When learning how to shoot rifles, it takes a lot of practice and patience when shooting because the slightest twitch will send your bullet off target.Another important thing to remember is if you use a scope, you will always have to be very cautious to not to bump your gun into anything or drop it because it is very easy to k nock your scope out of alignment and once you do that you will not be able to harvest a game. Rifle and shotguns are both awesome guns, and there are many different ways they are used for depending of the person, for example hunting, competition shooting, and they are used for law enforcement. Personally, shooting and guns in general are some of my passions along with hunting. I use this time to get out in the woods, relax and have a good time with friends.

Electoral college Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Electoral college - Essay Example Their understanding being that the electors sent by the individual states would most likely prevent the election of an individual who threatens to consolidate power within the federal government. The Electoral College really favours the states, since it ensures there is more attention to the less populous states which would otherwise be at the risk of being sidelined and ignored by the presidential candidates. This means that if people elected the president directly, candidates would more likely shift their attention to population-rich states such as Texas, California and New York rather than small states like Nevada, Wisconsin and New Mexico. Another better argument for Electoral College is that it produces clear winners, and contrasts sharply with the popular vote which has always remained quite close in almost all presidential elections. The Electoral College is a disadvantage to the individual voter since it violates the rule of one person, one vote, which actually would be the best rule of a vibrant modern democracy. All in all the Electoral College has always helped magnify the scope of the incoming candidateââ¬â¢s victory and for someone entrusted with the most high-profile job in the world, an additional boost of legitimacy cannot be

The Importance of Marketing to Organizations in the Twenty-first Coursework
The Importance of Marketing to Organizations in the Twenty-first Century - Coursework Example The paper tells that for many companies in today's business environment, the marketing process is largely centered upon the concept of brand building, which is employed in every phase of the marketing process. There are numerous challenges to be faced when a company determines to market in a global economy, even when they plan on conducting business on a strictly local level. One of the major challenges is trying to find a means of communicating to a variety of cultures through the means of a single message. Every society has its own standards and concepts of what is acceptable and what is motivational. While Americans seem to respond well and quickly to ads that celebrate individualism such as a Nike ad in which a soccer team disrupts normal activity at the airport, Segal reveals the responsiveness of Chinese consumers to these kinds of appeals. For the Chinese, these ads only have an effect if, like McDonald's ads that capitalize on a Chinese cultural belief that beef acts as an ap hrodisiac, it promises some kind of payoff. Technology has assisted in these areas, though. As cultures begin to merge through closer connections, modifications to advertisements can be made with a few digital clicks. Technology makes it possible for advertisers to quickly modify the imagery used in their marketing campaigns. More sophisticated means of managing merchandise are also available thanks to electronic tracking from production through consumer trends. As Serna reports, technology has dramatically improved corporations' abilities to track and more appropriately understand consumer purchasing habits for everything from their favorite cereal to the types of financial services they require. While cultures such as that which exists in the United States and that of England are similar in many ways, profound differences have been found in styles of comedy and so forth that have only been breaking down recently with the increased connection through film, media and the internet. A s people become more sensitive to the differences between cultures, they also become more appreciative of the ideas and beliefs as they are expressed in the other cultures with which they come in contact. Thus, today's marketing is characterized by a complex combination of global and local appeals, technology-driven campaigns and, particularly, the emphasis placed on the concept of 'branding'. Ã The image presented by the company has come to be referred to generally under the single word 'branding.' Branding has often been publicized as the best means of creating a loyal customer base and achieving instant worldwide recognition. "Corporate branding emerged as a key concept in the late 1990s". The meaning of the term itself has undergone an extreme transformation in recent years.

Why do we distinguish between network administration and systems Essay
Why do we distinguish between network administration and systems administration - Essay Example However, many companies have more than one roles being performed by a single person. This is mainly due to the lack of resources, limited operations and economic reasons. However, despite all this, the roles of the different people involved in any typical IT department can easily be defined separately. The IT director being the head of the department represents the IT in the top management team. Other three categories and/or designations are the people directly involved with workings and infrastructure of the IT of the company. The database administrator is simply the person managing the central database server of the organization. However there are significant confusions regarding the roles of the system and network administrator(s). The field of system administration is a broad term used to define the roles and responsibilities of the person who maintains and operate the IT infrastructure of the company as a whole. A system administrator, also known as the 'sysadmin' (Microsoft, 1999), can have a work schedule ranging from a few hours per week to a full time job depending on the size of the organization. A system administrator might not even know the CEO, but he actually acts as the liaison between the technical and the non-technical staff of the organization. Some of the basic duties performed by the system administrator(s) are (Limoncelli & Hogan, 2007); Install and maintain the user... Determine hardware and software pre-requisites, which patches and/or plug-ins to install, which services to provide, and which services to disable. Plan and manage the machine room environment Design machine room; specify cooling temperatures, cabling configurations, power connections and alternate support, and environmental controls (fire alarm, security, etc.) Schedule downtime to perform upgrades/patches, and test devices and schedule downtime to manage devices. Install and maintain the user accounts; develop acceptable use policy and login-name policy, rights and privileges of different users; determine password change policies; install/configure/manage name services; and manage licenses. Determine disk quota allocation, manage disk space, and monitor log files. Configure network services (Burgess, 2002): Printing, file sharing, name service. Determine file sharing needs and printing policies. Manage security for shared resources. Other duties of a system administrator may also include scripting, programming, project management for systems-related project of automation and/or system analysis and designing, supervising and/or training computer operators, and serving as a consultant for computer related problems beyond the ordinary knowledge of the technical support staff. A System Administrator is supposed to demonstrate a versatile blend of fine tuned technical skills and responsibility. Larger organizations have clearly defined models while smaller organizations will be likely to consolidate functions in order to maintain the health and operational capabilities of the systems. In both cases a system administrator would be there either as part of the larger IT group or as the only IT manager responsible for every system

Fin Mgt Final Project Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Fin Mgt Final Project - Essay Example We found that, though the two companies are quite profitable, Blue Scope Steel Limited is more profitable as we recommend those currently holding its stock should hold or buy more. Our recommendation is for our company to invest in this particular company. Globalization, the new information technology, and deregulation of financial markets and the quest for market dominance have eased the provision and search of finance. Today, millions of shares are traded every day on the worldââ¬â¢s stock markets. (Penman, 2003). Most often, investors see valuation as the first step toward intelligent investing. It has been argued (e.g. Penman 2003) that an investor can make informed decisions about where to invest once the value of shares are determine based upon the fundamentals. This is so because, without this value investors can either buy high or sell low Investors who trade on these stocks are often forced to ask themselves whether they are buying or selling at the right price. (Penman, 2003). Faced with too much information, Investors at times get confused with no clear indication of what the true prices of stocks should be. (Penman, 2003). Under such circumstances, the investor either make decision based on his or her instinct, such investors according to Penman (2003) are intuitive investors while others who make their decision based on capital market efficiency are referred to as passive investors (Atrill & Elliot2005). Penman, (2003) further argues that in making their decision, passive investors assumed that the market price is a fair price of the shares quoted. These investment mechanisms appear to be very simple, as they do not require much effort. (Penman, 2003: pp 3). How ever that is not the case as neither passive nor intuitive investor turn to be better off in the face of their decision. This is so because these sets of
